The better half and I were visiting Oakwood Cemetery near one of the ponds when my wife heard an unusual bird call. She searched for the source and found it. I managed to capture it with the HX400V -- a Kingfisher.
We were waiting to see if the Kingfisher would move any closer when my wife exclaimed: "A Great Blue (heron), he flew way up in that tree!"
Our experience is that Great Blues hang out near water, often wading in it or standing on the shore. In our experience, they never roost way up in a tree, but here he is:
