Our old pub's garden, empty in the height of summer ..
The pub remains closed after the old landlord decided to retire late last year; noone, not even his daughters, seem to have a desire to keep it going - after four generations of running it in the family. That said, I don't begrudge them - it's a tough life, and not one that makes family life any easier. My own grandfather was the last one to run a hotel in our line of the family as well (though one of my distant cousins still tries to keep going).
