I attended this event on 14 April 2021. I think the whole experience is shareworthy, especially for members who are in hard lockdown.
Cameras are allowed as long as flashes are turned off. Many had used their smartphones but there were around 6 others who used system cameras. I saw an Olympus user, most likely and E-M10, then the others used bigger ones. I noticed that many larger cameras started taking photos using their mechanical shutter but then carried on using their electronic shutters because their mechanical shutters sounded like "clack" whereas my camera and the Olympus' mechanical shutters sounded more like a "shwwwp." I didn't bother anyone with the sound because the fake shutter sound of smartphones were really much louder.
I was initially overwhelmed by the number of displays without symmetrical alignments but then after 5 mins, I noticed that we were very free to roam around and use whatever spots good for photos, as longa as, well, we aren't directly in front of a viewer.
The experience was truly different as it turned out that the viewers are part of the whole experience both in viewing and taking photos.
The projected images looked like Van Gogh's paintings in daylight so viewing everything was so satisfying. The colours themselves were so good I had to re-experience the whole thing on the next session.
The event was held in Spark Arena, Auckland.
The first room was filled with some exhibits of his paintings but with captions.
EDIT: Imagine our favourite classical music by beethoven, bach, mozart, satie, pachebel, etc. being played in-sync with the mood of the displays.
Life-size replica of his Arles bedroom painting
The crowd stayed for a while in this room but was told to go to the next one for the proper immersive experience
