Fuji Viltrox 27mm 1.2 Pro

Bobby T

Out Of Nowhere
With it's image quality, aperture, close minimum focus, and build quality. This makes for an interesting lens. With 1.2 apertures, 27mm and 75mm actually make for a good two lens event/wedding kit.

Got my eye on Viltrox, they're making it better for all mirrorless systems at the moment.

And the 13. Not F1.2 but a humdinger all the same. Would make a good third to that kit.

I have started to think over selling the 16mm 1.4/56mm 1.2 I am currently shooting with to try that very thing. The biggest thing holding me back is that I have never worked with any of those focal lengths. I got so used to shooting 50's that it took me a bit to get used to shooting with the 56 again. So it makes me hesitant. But the lens quality and their image quality doesn't look to leave anything desired.

Hi Bobby 🙂

Perhaps these YT videos will help You to get an idea, what is like to shoot in 40mm FL:

For me 40mm has quite interesting perspective.
Although I do already own stellar XF 23/1.4 R WR LM, which as You can see gives very similar results, so it is hard for me to justify buying this news lens.
It is not I would not like to have it in my bag, but this new Viltrox 27/1.2 is just huge for my standards.
It's like behamoth in world of apsc size primes, and at the end it is just 40/2 (at FF terms) but with size almost like Sigma's ART full frame series primes.
I would love to see in Fuji X system equivalent of Nikon's Nikkor Z 40/2
Small and compact, ultralight, very cheap with budget build quality, yet having WR and delivers not so clinical rendering - a lens with character.
This type of cheap lens would be top seller among Fuji users, but Viltrox 27/1.2 is in my opinion simply to big as for aps-c size camera, to become super popular.
It will be niche product, same as Voigtlander primes for Fuji X mount.

Thanks for the video and input. The size of the 27 1.2 wouldn’t bother me. I’ve shot with the larger Fuji lenses consistently. But, I’ve been shooting some with a loaner Fuji 27 2.8. So far I’ve found shooting at that focal length to be odd. I have built up a muscle memory of shooting 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm in FF terms. From many years of shooting at those focal lengths. It’s probably going to be a no go for me. Although it looks to be an excellent lens.

It looks like one hell of a lens. My ideal focal length, actually. But it's also big, and I already own the 35 f/1.4 and 23 f/1.4.

The 23 (old version) is already borderline too big for my tastes, and the Viltrox is longer, wider, and heavier. And the bokeh has a slight cat's eye swirliness that I'm not a fan of.

Much as I'd love to play with this lens, experience has shown me that I just don't gel with big lenses. Maybe I'll use the sports finder mode with my 23 instead. That should get me into the same ballpark. Still, mighty tempting.

Coming back to this thought. On a family trip we just got back from. I spent a lot of time shooting with the 27mm 2.8 v1. Trying to get used to what is for me, and in between focal length. I am a lot more comfortable shooting 27mm. So I am going to take a more serious look at this Viltrox 27mm and the Fuji 27mm v2.
