This is the inscription on the memorial at Slapton thanking the people of the area who evacuated with just six weeks notice late in 1943 in order to provide American troops with a live firing practice ground.

To make up for yesterday, a really strange shot I'm still pleased with somehow: Leica M8, Voigtländer 28mm f/2 at f/8, focus at infinity (through faulty handling!), hip shot! The guy was screaming "photography" all over. Yes, that's a Rolleiflex TLR, and he's sporting a Nikon bag (I know where he got that one, too).

I was so knackered when I came home yesterday evening that I was actually swaying, no longer able to walk straight. So I went to bed instead of grabbing a last-minute shot. I'm glad I did, too. I'll post more later ...

Going out again on a street photography mission, this time in my home town. A manual 28mm set to f/8 and 2 m and just shoot. Not sure if all of these are keepers but it feels good to be back in the game.

Just for the record: In the spirit of exploration (the E-M5 III is the newest kid on the block), I'll switch lenses now: The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 will replace the Olympus 25mm f/1.8 tomorrow (for a couple of days). I plan to shoot the Sigma 60mm f/2.8, Laowa 7.5mm f/2 and Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 fish-eye as well during the remaining days (with the super-wides only on for a day - or a day each; they're extremely specialised). If weather deteriorates, I'll phase in the 14-150mm II ...

I'm not super-satisfied with the sharpness impression I got out of the Olympus combo - spoiled by other gear, I guess. Let's see how things develop, though; I was very satisfied with the results from the 12-40mm f/2.8, so it's probably not the camera ...

It had to happen. Whilst I've not completely avoided tractor pictures I haven't shown any monochrome images so far this month. Well today's the day, albeit not an image captured today which has a cloudless blue sky and hence is not best suited to rendering landscapes in monochrome, but an image captured a couple of days ago whilst waiting for the bus at Slapton Turn. Yes, it's that beach again.

Slapton Sands looking north
I only had a few yards to walk from the bus stop down to the shoreline. Also I can see the bus coming down the hill where the road is seen sloping diagonally down left of centre between the two darker wooded areas actually just where a very feint rainbow reaches the ground. I know I've then got about 3 minutes to wait for it to arrive, so I can easily get back to the bus stop without even breaking sweat and have time to spare. As usual the monochrome image has somewhat altered the mood of the day by exaggerating the sky to some extent, however I feel it has enhanced the image over and above what I can achieve in colour so I'm happy to go with it. Note also that the surf has diminished compared to the image obtained a couple of days earlier.
