Just took delivery of a Viltrox 23 1.4 Fuji X mount used 9 from Bhphoto.
The lens looks great. When shot at F1.4 in the 1-3 meter range the output is sublime.
Sharp center and an almost faster than F1.4 look with OOF blur.
With mid distance range I'm having weird intermittent results. A few shots show this result and others do not.

This was shot this morning early before work, so fast and from the hip.
If you look at the left side of the image it looks like there was a small seismic anomaly in a ten meter square area with objects outside of the area both closer and farther away in focus and sharp.
I've included a few crops. Tomorrow I will shoot in mid xmas day on a tripod and do a better test.

While my technical level is one click above buffoon I'm pretty sure that it's at least kinda weird.
Oh well, at least it's worth the conversation. Happy holidays btw.

Here's the whole scene. AF targeted was infinity.

A crop of the afflicted area. Note used oil. And also the sharper license plate.

Across the scene to the right. Should the very near right be that sharp?

And one more of the center.

It was a microseismic event. :hmmm::thumbsup:

Tripod, MF, IBIS, timed release reveals a pretty good performer.
Maybe AF inaccuracy is accounting for some of its bewitching behavior.
Note: Firmware is up to date.

I asked for an RMA from BH.
This one just doesn't feel right.

Fast and from the hip, 1/60 of a second - are we sure this isn't camera shake? Perhaps "camera twist", with the axis of rotation towards the right side of the image?

If it still happens on a tripod and at higher shutter speeds, I'm wrong.

@Richard
I would say that's a pretty good explanation.
Although the fairly sharp license plate frame is throwing me off.

Maybe a loose element ?

Edit: Exploring EFCS.
