Weird numbers, and what's happened over here on SC?

It's a very specialized place here given that Compacts covers a big range of brands and camera capabilities. I did my second review for Amin here and it's quite diverse. Nice folks and at mu-43.com as well. It's like a quiet club. :)

Doesn't a big range make it a very generalised place though? :)

and Karen - you haven't been quiet on Flickr, I'm sure your yearly Festival Fiesta of Street Photography deserves it's own thread here too?

I don't think there is anything to worry :)
Everything is relative - I don't find it particularly slow here.
(But then again, I'm a slow person... probably the reason why I'm still shooting the old Sigma DP's ;)

I quite like the atmosphere here. Very friendly and welcoming. (Veeery friendly compared to a certain big forum :)

I guess a lot of us are just more visual people. Better with images than with words...
So less (writing) can be more... And sometimes it's just about enjoying the silence (ooh, gotta put that CD on again sometime... :)

cheers,
Tilman

Not to get off this site as a topic but one site that's quite friendly but has gotten increasingly quiet over the past year or two is the forum section at Steve's Digicams. So quiet that I'm beginning to worry about them.

I didn't realize Steve's Digicams was even still around. Waaaaay back in my point and shoot days, very early into digital, I used to read his reviews when I was about to buy a cheap camera. But its been a long time since I've been there. I'll have to check it out again...

I think it is quieter round here than normal, but then I'm very busy so I'm not doing a lot of responding. Its the same old story, if you want it busier, post more and respond more. I'm not really able to engage much at the moment, the odd couple of words here and there to show I'm appreciating folks pictures. I also have little or nothing to say about most of the compact systems, I'm only familiar with the one I've got. That's not a surly "don't care", I just don't know what I'm talking about, so I don't.

I do think we are suffering for the lack of the weekly challenge though.

I was in Montreal last week and in agreement with Briar, I read but often don't post. I don't have access to all these cameras and unless I find a link or something of interest, there is nothing I can add. I could have done the last Salon though if I had moved faster using pics taken in Quebec. Oh well. :)

The numbers are not irrelevant to the experience here (after all, if no one hangs it, it isn't much of a community), but I'd hardly describe it as dead.

There are some other solidly established and respected places (DPI comes to mind), and there is the wild west (DPR), and lots of specialist forums. This one has carved out some unique territory, and I find it useful.

I do feel that there is a summer lull. I suspect also that for some of the historically heavy posters there might be a bit of forum burn-out.

But overall, I like the quality of the experience. It's like most things; you get out what you put in. I've been more absent recently due to heavy workload and a few health issues.

I'm a bit late to the party, forgive me. Bill (AKA wt21), I'm glad you miss me. I miss you, too.

Summer is always slooowwwerrrrr on the forums, I think... Of course I'm being very narrow minded since it's only summer for us in the northern hemisphere. And, to make it worse - it's going by waaaaaay too quickly for my taste!

I've been very busy off the 'puter because we bought a new old farmhouse about 60 miles north of where we currently live and it's an adventure just finding out where the well is and the septic tank...and trying to dehumidify it and get rid of several years worth of neglect...but it's beautiful up there and I will soon be bombarding the forums with the natural beauty and other pix from up that way...just haven't had the time to post process. When I come home, I'm exhausted.

Everyone's posts are good to read and chew on. I love this place and am sure we'll all make it the best we can, when we can. Suggestions are always good to hear.:grouphug:

My husband just got back from a business trip there today, said it was rather hot though in the midwest we've been in the 100's too. Just not today. He came home to a 30 degree temp change.

BB,
Love the idea of an old homestead, "do over". But just don't have that kind of, "can do", any more. Just don't have the heart for it (congestive heart failure). General health is much better, but the damage was done. So I will just live the experience through your photographic,.... diary? There will be one? Yes?
The physical abuse is draining on you folks right now, but the reward will last a long while.
Congrats!

Steve, many thanks for the good wishes and yes there must be a photographic diary... Maybe I'll make a Blurb book and sell it to raise funds for the dormer, kitchen, and - most importantly - pole barn?

On a more serious note, I feel for those in parts of the world suffering from drought and power losses. I'm sitting here under my ceiling fan and really have nothing to complain about...except when I read about Chuck's oceanside vacation.;)
