Fuji Showcase Weltblick f3,5/135mm vs. Tele-Ennalyt f2,8/135mm vs. Summicron f2/90mm

Regular
Hi,

today i received two interesting 135mm lenses, that i wanted to compare with the wellknown Leica Summicron 90mm, despite of their different openings and focal lengths:

Weltblick f3,5/135mm by Weltblick, M42 mount, adapted, 84mm long, incl. adapter 116mm, ca. 365g, Filter 49mm
Tele-Ennalyt f2,8/135mm bei Enna, München, M42 mount, adapted, 85mm long, incl. adapter 117mm, ca. 350g, Filter 49mm
Summicron f2,0/90mm by Leica, Leica M mount, adapted, 79mm long, incl. adapter 88mm, ca. 540g, Filter E55

The three lenses: Weltblick, Tele-Ennalyt, Summicron (from left to right)

The scene is a handmade glass picture

Weltblick f3,5/135mm

4,00m distance, the sun is about 3,5cm, the big letters about 3mm high

I used Provia film modus at ISO800, clouded sky whitebalance, X-E1 on a tripod. All pictures are sooc jpeg's. I cropped them to the same size for better comparing. The photo of the Summicron is much more cropped than the other ones, because of 2/3 focal length. All lenses are adapted by an mount adapter.

You can see clearly the difference in between the 3 lenses.
The Weltblick ist the sharpest, than the Summicron, after that the Tele-Ennalyt.

Weltblick f3,5/135mm vs. Tele-Ennalyt f2,8/135mm vs. Summicron f2/90mm at f5,6

So, now we look at the lenses at f5,6:

The scene is the same handmade glass picture, distance 4,00m, the sun is about 3,5cm, the big letters about 3mm high.

Again the Weltblick ist the sharpest, than the Summicron, after that the Tele-Ennalyt. The Tele-Ennalyt appears to be pale. Furthermore the photo of the summicron is much more cropped.

Weltblick f3,5/135mm vs. Tele-Ennalyt f2,8/135mm vs. Summicron f2/90mm at f5,6

So, now we look at the Weltblick f3,5/135mm at different apertures:

The scene is the same handmade glass picture, distance 4,00m, the sun is about 3,5cm, the big letters about 3mm high.

I used Provia film modus at ISO800, clouded sky whitebalance, X-E1 on a tripod. All pictures are sooc jpeg's. I cropped them to the same size for better comparing.

View attachment 1115 View attachment 1116 View attachment 1117

Images improved by closing the aperture.

The Weltblick f3,5 / 135mm is a sharp lens. I don't want to say sharper as the Summicron, as the Summicron photos were much more cropped. The Weltblick for itself is a very small lens, but needs a much larger adapter as the Summicron. Considering the fact, that the Weltblick is available for 49,-€ at the bay and the Summicron costs 20 times more, this old manual focussing lens is a good bargain. The Tele-Ennalyt is not in the same class as the Weltblick or the Summicron. Furthermore the Weltblick is much better to focus. I wouldn't recommend to buy it.

Chritics and Comments appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to purchase the equipment, doing the tests, and presenting the results. The Weltblick seems like outright theft at the quoted price:)

Hi, CaptZoom :tiphat:,
I saw the Tele-Ennalyt on eBay and it pleased me because its a small good old style looking full machined metall lens. There is not so much information on sharpness in the net. Than you must feel the lens in your hand concerning focussing and so on...
So, at first, i wanted to know for myself, how sharp the lens is, how it's performing in comparison with other lenses.
Second, it's fun writing a kind of review :Dexter: and see, that other people like it. There is never enough information on this old lenses in the net. The more we all write in the forum, the more we can have fun with our bargains.

:th_salute:fujidanny

Thanks for the review! Very informative. And I've learned about a few lenses I had never heard of before (yes, I know Leica ;) )

Some birds on the riverside...

Hi :tiphat:,

today i came along a river with a lot of birds and made some photos:
It was a dull, grey and misty weather, so the photos can't be brilliant by that.

Here ist the whole scene (X-E1, XF 18-55 at 18mm)

View attachment 1122

I took out my Weltblick f3,5 / 135mm, began to shoot:

... leader to wingman: we break through the little dugs...

View attachment 1123 f3,5

...ooooh, i have to clean my feathers...

View attachment 1124 f3,5

The traffic sign about 150-200m away on the other riverside:

View attachment 1126

... upps - i can read it :dance3:!

So, what about the red container over there behind the lockage ?

View attachment 1127 f5,6

No, i can't read it :(.

But : i bought a Weltblick 2x Extender, and we will see in the next post, how it performed.

Weltblick f3,5/135mm with 2x Extender

Here again :tiphat:,

we saw, that there are limitations to the Weltblick f3,5/135mm to make a photo of a ca. 250m away red container with a ca. 40x60 cm label. Handheld in a misty weather i can't read the about 10cm high letters...:(

But, there are extenders, and the Weltblick 2x Extender, that i got for 24€ in the bay, performs quite good:

The label on the 250m away container:

View attachment 1128 f5,6, 1/340s

That's okay handhelt at 1/340s: 135mm x APS-C 1,5 x 2x Extender makes 405cm equivalent at full format (35mm film)

Just cropping and 2 clicks in iPhoto and you can improve:

View attachment 1129
Level 26%-84%, sharpness 48%

I think, a raw-shooter could be create even better results by smart post processing:encouragement:

Some more birds:

View attachment 1130 View attachment 1131 View attachment 1132

I think, the sharpness is not comparable to the lens without the extender. But, i want to say, that this little piece of metal and glass isn't to bad to give it away - i will have some tripod shoots in bright weather to find a final decision.

Critics and comments are appreciated :Dexter:
Thank you! :hail:

Good and funny experiences with Weltblick f3,5/135mm

Hello :tiphat:

today, i made some good and some funny experience with my Weltblick f3,5/135mm:

The good experience:

The lens renders nice colors and really good plasticity!

The funny experience:

On this photo i saw in iPhoto green colour fringing around the left dug and purple colour fringing at the right dug.
But on those photos, i can't see it  - can anybody explain this to me :confused:?

Okay, futher investigations are necessary :dejection:, a lot of fun with that lens-test 📡!

Again, C&C appreciated!

Like a phoenix from the ashes: Tele-Ennalyt goes macro!

Hello :tiphat:

the last days were a little bit disappointing :( , because i hoped the two old Weltblick and Enna lenses could satisfy me by sharpness and colour rendering.
The Tele-Ennalyt f2,8 / 135mm showed great problems in sharpness, so that i didn't go on with further testing.
The Weltblick f3,5 / 135mm is quite sharp, showed in further testing green and purple colour fringing.
So, what to do ?

It's Easter Monday morning and the weather is fine, first flowers to see on the lawn, the bushes are in bud...
Suddenly the idea   : Didn't i buy those lovely old close-up rings by Schacht/Ulm a weak ago? They should fit very well to the Tele-Ennalyt. Let's have a look, how that functions!

Yeah! That looks good! :)

View attachment 1269

I used those setting:
Velvia, ISO 400, F8, Exp.-2/3EV DRauto, WBauto, STone -1

I stood about one meter away! What a plasticity!
View attachment 1270

Oh, what a boket! Okay, eversthing far away, but creamy as butter!
View attachment 1271

I would't say, thats unsharp! Again - nice boket...
View attachment 1272

Look at the colors!
View attachment 1273

I was really surprised - i wanted to sell that lens as fast as possible, but now i don't wanna miss it for such pictures :dance3::dance4::dance3:

Hello :tiphat:

Now, we wanna have a look on the more Leica-M-style looking Weltblick f3,5/135mm:

B&W - Contrast and Boket

Hello :tiphat:

Now i want to show you b&w photos of both lenses side by side:

View attachment 1278
View attachment 1281
Tele-Ennalyt f2,8/135mm

Help, please help :hail: I can't see the difference, give me some comments :Dexter:, please!
They look all so good, whether color nor b&w: i don't know what to say :dance3::dance4::dance3:

Verdict: Don't think too bad about a lens, before you didn't try it out in different ways - you never know, what the best performance is, unless you test it in different situations. Both lenses perform very well out in the field, any sharpness tests don't give you the right info on a lens, there are much more things to proof. Both lenses render a beautiful boket, sometimes the softness of the Tele-Ennalyt is the bringer.
keep in mind, the Weltblick costs about 50-75€ (75-100$), the Tele-Ennalyt 20-35€ (30-45$). They are both good bargains.

Some discuss: is the X-E1 the new Leica M? I think it's a good alternative with all those beautiful old manual focus lenses.
I love my 18-55 very much, especially, when i'm out with the family - not to much time for focussing and so on.
But: When I am out to celebrate good old school photography, to come down and relax, there is nothing giving more fun to me as those old manual focussing lenses, thinking about the best view, zooming by feet...

Cheers!
