Leica What is this nonsense? Yashica "digital film camera"

"DigiFilm"- at first I was hoping it would be a drop in Digital Cartridge with Sensor for a Yashica GSN. Like someone pulled off Silicon Filmworks idea.

It's a boutique camera... Kind of like the replica Minox digital cameras.

The "film" cartridge is a holder for an SD card, but gives ISO/Monochrome/Color presets to the camera. It looks more like an Agfa Rapid Cassette than 35mm.

"I'll pass"...

I thought it looked kind of fun at first... until I realized it had a 1/3.2" sensor. That's a cell phone sensor from a few years ago. That pretty much makes this a toy. Too bad. It would be pretty cool with a one-inch sensor - or even a 2/3 or 1/1.7" sensor. Even Yi offers a state-of-the-art 4/3 sensor.

When I read the headline I also thought it was going to be a cartridge like the Silicon Filmworks concept.

Too bad it isn't. It's just a marketing gimmick. But it raised way past its Kickstarter goal, so there are plenty of people who want to pretend they are shooting film.

I guess if you market something with a moody-looking Japanese girl the "hipsters" will part with their cash in droves.

Hey, what's wrong with moody Japanese girls?

I don't recall reading the SD card will be in the 'digi-film' cartridge. I believe it's stored somewhere else in the camera. The 'digi-film' thingies really are just the camera presets.

So... If I start converting broken F36 motor drives into a digital back for the F people won't want one...

I told one of my bosses that in ~1986 when he asked what I would do when my chosen profession would make my favorite hobby obsolete. Told him I'd convert an F36 back into a digital back.
