Some aperture rings have click stops at certain settings. Some do not. Some have a way to turn the click stops on or off.

Most all in one zoom cameras have an optional "step zoom" setting that makes the zoom lever change the focal length from 24 to 28 to 35, 50, 85 mm equivalent and beyond.

I have never heard of a zoom lens for an ILC with click stops at 24, 28, 35, 50, 85, etc. in mm equivalent. For myself, this is one feature I miss from all in one cameras.

People talk about a zoom lens that is "just as good as" a set of primes. I would think that click stops would help in that regard, perhaps making it easier for a long time prime user to stick with zoom lenses.

I use slow zooms because I find the fast ones too big. If I could get past that, I would get the Olympus 12-100 4.0 and stick with it. Alas, I am mostly a 50 equivalent shooter, even if it costs me shots sometimes.

Mine hasn't quit asking, but has given up trying to understand.

My wife understands that I rarely buy a lens unless I can sell it for more than was paid for it. This of course means going over the lens on my work bench at home. Now- when I see the packages arrive in the Mail Box from the women's clothing store, I give her credit for reviving the economy.
