Rabbit pie is very tasty!
Would have to respectfully disagree there Charles. Alright I haven't had the pie but I have had rabbit (having been told what it was after I ate it). Most certainly the first and last time. I knew there was something not quite right as I was eating it, a bit too rich and a bit too sweet (or "gamey" flavour as foodies put it). Needless to say, I felt quite ill at the thought of it, if I could describe what it must feel like eating a pet, that would be it. Still, as they say your experience may vary, it's served in Michelin starred restaurants and my uncle's a fan of it but alas I'm not.

Condolences Lyle. Those are extremely invasive. They reproduce like...well, rabbits. Our island was overrun with many K-thousands. Ten rabbits eat as much as a cow. Cost farmers tens of thousands of dollars to fence them out. With disease and the fencing the numbers are now in check but with fewer farms and more trophy homes they could break out anytime.

I assume that eventually the local coyotes will take notice (though they bring their own problems). Maybe stray/feral cats (and foxes, if they are about) will help keep the rabbit kits under control.

We had a two or three year surge in rabbit population about 12 years back which eventually sorted itself out.

My sympathies to you Tim. I like rabbit pie and rabbit stew! Lovely!

Rabbit Calicivirus helped bring the feral rabbit population here under some semblance of control.

A bad and unpredicted side effect was a crash in the population of wedge tail eagles, who had bred up as predators on our out of control rabbit population.

Last October I photographed and posted a somewhat rare gray fox that visited our yard. Over the past few weeks, one of her kits has been visiting every day (according to Wiki, they're born in March/April). Yesterday a crow started frantically cawing warnings when he arrived, and this morning he was dive-bombed by scrub jays (which I unfortunately just missed due to this all happening too close for my lens). Anyway, here are some cute shots I managed:
