In a previous post, I used the word uber which according to the dictionary is:

adverb
having the specified property to an extreme or excessive degree; very:
an uber fancy restaurant.
adjective
designating a person or thing that exceeds the norms or limits of its kind or class:
uber intellectuals.

Now obviously we all know what Uber is, and so that word has been effectively removed from our general vocabulary.

What other words have suffered a similar fate?

I have a couple as I'm officially an "old fart", but I'll let others chime in first.

cheers,

It comes from the German

Here in Europe we use über as a German loan word quite comfortably, despite the existence of the service. :)

I wouldn't hesitate to use it in American correspondence either.

In this thread, are we specifically looking for words that have been taken over by some businesses?
