OK, let me get on the bandwagon - Andy? Then I'll need pointers on how to upload 'em.
I've only taken about 30 or so pictures with the X10...trying to figure out what I thought. As you know, I've decided to keep it. Here is my first black and white version of a photo, also posted elsewhere. Figured we should all start adding to the thread.
I think you folks saw plenty of my B&W samples in the sample images thread, but here are a couple, for those checking out this thread and not that one. I used Aperture presets for quite a while, but for the past year I think I've done basically every B&W image I've ever made in Silver Efex Pro, with the possible exception of a few SOOC HiBW shots with my GRD3. But with the X10, they'll all go through SEP.
I was SO tempted to get the GRD3 or 4 as the B&W images were SO good from that camera but the X10 is really proving it's worth and is by far the best for B&W that i have.

Really??? I don't honestly get that. Any good color file of an image that's well suited for B&W is as good as any other I think. Obviously, camera's have different characteristics - the X100 has a level of smooth subtlety that I don't see in much else, the Olympus m43 cameras have fairly stunning clarity in a lot of shots, the GRD series has their own filmy look. And the X10 makes very nice files that convert well and is as good as any. But I can't say any of my cameras is better for B&W than any other. I guess I could say that not all of them are equally good for color, but I don't think one is better than another for B&W - just sort of different...
O.K., just for fun I tried the "Pro Focus" this morning. Very cool, sorta' HDR for focus.
ISO800, f2.2, about 50mm - ish, I think,(35mm equiv.). View attachment 44764

These BW are looking great. But I don't need another camera, I don't need another camera, I don't need another camera, don't need another camera, need another camera, another camera, camera………………….. I'm not sure the therapy works.
BB - I just mentioned the shot in a PM reply. O.K., I just put Silver Efex Pro on my Christmas want list. Incredible images, Ray. Well seen and beautifully processed.
