Fuji X10 lens hood - 52mm Variable ND Filter

Has anyone used a variable ND filter in the X10 lens hood please?

The variable lenses all protrude further than their 52mm thread and whilst the lens hood would appear to have some room for the extra diameter, I'm wondering if they have enough.

You are going to have to block the vent holes on the Fuji lens hood to keep stray light from entering from behind the filter. You might try a 40mm (Not 40.5) step up ring like this one.
