Fuji X20 insurance?

Hi everybody,

as cameras these days are valuable objects, I asked my insurance what will happen when I break, loose or get my camera stolen. For my office (graphic design) I already have an insurance, but it will only cover my material IN the office. So now s I will probably order the X20 ( or win it in 2 days :yahoo:) I am wondering if it is worth taking the insurance.

What do you think?

best regards
Fred

Hi Fred, this is always a good question. All my kit is covered under my home contents insurance; I check that my provider does not impose unreasonably low single-item limits. Why not start from there?

Hi Fred,
I never take out additional insurance (except for smartphones where I have had to use this insurance) because I've never needed it and so the first time I need it I will still be out ahead. E.g., lets say over the past 10 years I've bought a computer or a microwave or a camera every year and I am offered an extended warrantee or other "insurance" policy for each purchase and lets say each policy costs an additional $100. So one item per year for ten years leads to 10 X $100 = $1000 which is $1000 that I haven't spent. Lets say something happens to one of those items. Mostly likely any one item was less than $1000 or would cost less than $1000 to replace so odds are I will still come out ahead.
Anyway, my 2 cents.
I haven't had any insurance on any of my cameras. The X10 has a been exceptionally robust in build as well.
